Review: Beautiful Katamari
Guess what?

The king fucked up. Again.

Guess what?

You have to fix it by rolling stuff. Again.

Yes, Beautiful Katamari doesn't seem to differentiate itself from it's predecessors, making this the 4th time you're cleaning up the mess that awesomedad made. Wait, before I jump the gun, lemme summarize the series.

Katamari Damacy is the quirky little game that captures everyone's hearts back in 2003-2004, because of it's notoriously catching tunes EVER MADE. You're the little prince of all cosmos, and your father, in a drunk mood, accidentally destroyed all the stars, and it's up to the little prince to roll up items into the katamari, in order to make new stars. Whatever's smaller than your katamari sticks, making it a little puzzle game.

Really, the story doesn't make any sense (which made it so awesome), but the gameplay was brilliant, and the soundtrack made the game a million times better.

So fast-forward a few years. We've had 2 games on the Playstation 2, one on the PSP, and now we've came to the 4th installment of the series. The series' creator has been absent since part 2, a fact that has become painfully noticeable since the PSP game. The 4th game is totally devoid of originalty, and just focuses on everything it did before, and not even improving it. One could chalk this one down under "Why change a winning team?" but it just feels a bit cheap.

All elements that made the series so great are still there, but somehow, the sparkle that made the predecessors shine is somehow absent. Still, that doesn't change the fact that everyone who's a bit sick of the guy-shoot-everything or race-till-you-bore-yourself-to-death type of games should really try this one.

Grade: 65 out of 100

Try and buy if you're new to the series, pass if you played the previous games. Unless you're into high definition graphics, this game has nothing new for you.
